These are photographs I took at the Contraband Camp Park, which is a short distance from my house. The park is located at the site of the 1863 Contraband Camp for newly-freed slaves. At one time, six thousand people lived in the camp. Assisted by the American Missionary Association, the camp provided them with their first chance at independence, free enterprise, and education. The park has been in the works for a few years now and just recently they added impressive bronze life size statues representing the way of life in the camp.
Welcome to the blog of a bargain hunter. When I'm not hunting for the best buys in town, I stay busy with my "This Old House" projects, chatting with pals, perfecting my photography skills, reading fiction and non-fiction especially anything historical and relaxing with a good movie.
