Birthday Time

My birthday was Saturday and I feel blessed that I got some really nice cards and gifts. I was given a decadent pecan, cheesecake, chocolate pie. It was so good!! I also got a pretty tote with my name & Mother of The Groom embrodiered on, plus a hundred dollar gift card from my son and his fiancee. One friend gave me a Bookland gift card and I'm looking forward to using it.

Then there is the gift I gave myself. I finally decided to buy a car, even though the decision has made me a nervous wreck. I actually had to take some nerve pills last night and go to bed. I have had some people tell me today they were same way after buying a car or a house. I don't buy cars often because I hate buying cars. I've had my current vehicle, a Maxima, for around nine years and it has 210,000 miles. I have never had any major problems with the car and the motor still runs well and burns no oil but with that many miles, I didn't like traveling any major distance in it. So, I decided this year I needed to start looking for a car. I got the Consumer Reports Car Buying Guide to start with and I really had no plans to get a car until summer. Let me warn you now, be ready to buy whenever you start looking or calling dealers. The Toyota salesman called me every day. By Friday afternoon, he was offering to bring me the car (he was in a city about 50 miles away) and all I had to do was sign the papers and the car was mine. So I finally told him I would come to the dealership on Saturday. I just felt like it would be too much of an obligation if he went to the trouble to bring the car to the city where I live. So, me and my friend, Brian, head for Tupelo. However, Brian wanted me to look at the Hondas first because he thought the Toyota wasn't a good deal. So, the Honda dealership guys were really nice but not pushy. The Toyota guy was calling me while I was at Honda but I didn't answer the phone. Brian and I went to eat and discuss the cars. The Honda salesman, James, assured me he wasn't going to call me. I got the feeling they really didn't have to push their cars. They sold three while I was there. I never went to the Toyota lot because I knew they were going to do the super-pressure sales on me. I decided to go with the new Honda Civic. It drove well and they say the Hondas are very reliable, which is my major concern. They didn't have the color I wanted so I have to go back next week to pick it up. I am feeling better about it today. Brian, who is alway so practical, pointed out that I wasn't buying something I didn't need and the brand of automobile was a good investment and I wouldn't have to worry about a car again. Plus it would add to my life in that I'll get to make some trips that I've wanted to make. So, anyway, it has been an eventful birthday for me!

Happy birthday! Congrats on the car.

Geez, my hubby loves nothing more than buying cars. Problem is, he doesn't like to get rid of them, hence we have six cars.

Hope you enjoy your new car, it looks great.

Happy Birthday!!!!! I think you made a great choice in cars. I have a honda civic that I bought in 1992 (I believe). I still have it and it still runs well. It has about 150,000 miles on it and I'm giving it to my 14 year old son who turns 15 next month. I love Honda's!
