Sunday afternoon, I decided to return to our famous Cat House and take photos. I got out my new Canon camera and read over the Quick Start Guide, stuck some batteries in the camera and took off for the old house. I thought I'd look rather professional wearing a neck-strap camera, and I was looking forward to taking pictures, especially in the attic.
I had never seen an attic like that one except in the movies. The ceiling looked to be 10 ft high and it was all made of old "tongue and groove" planks. There were gabled areas with windows. There is a large round window in the center of the front of the house, that had been removed Saturday to let air in the attic. Plus the attic had old chests, framed pictures, magazines and stacks of newspapers from the 1920's. It was the perfect setting for a story.
So I get there before 1. The estate sale started at one. There was already probably a hundred people in line. So I decided I would go shopping and come back when the crowd thinned out. I came back an hour later and the streets were crowded with cars for blocks around the house and the line was even longer than before. The mystique of the old mansion whose doors had been locked for decades drew a huge audience.
Because of the knee problem I'm having, I knew I couldn't wait in line. I had some friends who went and they were in line for over two hours. Way past the closing time at 3 pm. Now, the only photos I have are mental. However, I do hope there will be another day when the Cat House's door will be open again.

I hope it opens again too!! BTW, around me, the local city park and recreational center offers Basic and Advanced Photography classes. Years ago I took some... I even took classes on developing in a dark room and using paints for black and white photos. You never know what you might find at your local city rec center! It was super fun and I met other people like me... one lady lives in my neighborhood!
Ok, my eyes almost popped out of my head. When I first read this and being that I'm targeting the Harlequin Blaze line,(my mind runs amuck sometime) I thought you were talking about a 'House of Ill Repute'. AKA 'Cat House'. I'm siting here thinking, "What in the world is she doing going THERE to take pictures??? And of what!!?"
I did breathe a sigh of relief when I realized you were not going to do an article about hookers. Although it would more than likely be profitable, I just couldn't see you doing that. :D
I've got to take some time to read my camera manual. It's just right now I'm overwhelmed with house stuff.
The place sounds wonderful. Your description alone made me want to be there, or to build gables out from my own attic, which would greatly enhance our home.
Well, you were there. I wish I had been. Next time, call me earlier! Laughing. Fred was off work, but he was sick. I have spent the last two days in doctor's offices. But I got a lot of work done. My new study is finished. Just a little closet work.
The house sounds wonderful!! Don't worry, you'll get the pictures! Excited to see them...Happy day sweetie!hughugs
