Free Cycle

BTW, the photo has nothing to do with the post. Those are Jane's gnomes.

In case you haven't heard about Freecycle,it is a nationwide organization started with the hope of recycling one item at a time. You can go to Freecycle and type in the city where you live to see if your area has a Freecycle community. They use Yahoo groups email lists for posting what they want to give away or what they are looking for. One rule is everything has to be free. No sales allowed.

My first experience with Freecycle was today. I bought new carpet for two rooms this morning. One of them was my living room, which is totally wasted space. I had a loveseat and armchair in there, which I'd owned for many years and never used. I needed to get rid of them before Monday when the new carpet is to be installed. But, I knew I didn't really have time to sell them nor did I want to go around putting up sale signs. So I decided to join Freecycle and put them on our local list. OMG!! Within minutes, I had a dozen replies. I decided to go in order of replies and the first one said she and her husband would pick them up this afternoon. Sure enough, by five thirty, they were here and what was really a hoot is that the man turned out to be relative that I hadn't seen in years. My aunt was his grandmother! Talk about a small world. Note here: Freecycle does recommend you leave whatever items you are giving away outside for the other party to pick up. This is for safety reasons.

I got a really good deal on my carpet and I have a few more small jobs to do before I advertise my house. My goal is to be finished by next Saturday and then just wait and see.

I am also make progress on my book. This is day 60. I've got 92 pages written and I've reached the point where things are rolling along. I hope to be past page 110 by the end of this month.

I never heard about freecycle... I'm going to check it out! And how very good you must have felt to have given it to a relative. Things like this never cease to amaze me.

Mary & Jane, check out Free Cycle. It's a good program.

I may make a writing blog. I'm not sure. Mainly it is a time issue for me.

Reading about your book is inspiring me to get back to my writing.

Oh, I love Freecycle. The first time I went to pick up my free items (art paper), I realized I was in my old neighborhood from 20 years ago. The lady giving away the paper was my former neighbor!
The world is a funny, small place sometimes!

Wow, I love this idea. I have many things I would rather give to someone who wants them, then deal with trying to sell them.

And congrats on the writing!
