Today my project was a Valentine Basket. The company where I work was asked to donate a Valentine basket for a fundraiser at a nearby hospital. I was the person who was put in charge of Making The Basket and this was my first time ever making a gift basket. The contents and materials to make the basket cost me about $40 at Wal Mart. I was lucky I had a friend who gave me the basket because I had everything but the basket and it turned out the one she offered me was the perfect size! For the contents, I chose a bear, a candle, chocolate candy, flowers and a movie. I think The Lake House is a perfect Valentine movie.
The project required tools such as a wire cutter, flower foam, and some digging around in closets. I needed something firm that would hold up the bear and candle. I found a small postal box and it worked fine. I put it in the basket and secured the flower foam beside it. Then I covered it with red basket stuffing. Next I had to use the wire cutters on the stem of flowers to shorten the stem and cut off two of the branches to use in the front of the basket. Next came the arranging of items in the basket
Arranging the items was fun and I was glad the basket accommodated everything. After I got all the major items in place, I used Hershey's Kisses to decorate the red filler in the basket. Then came the task of putting shrink wrap on the basket. The shrink wrap I bought was sold in the craft department of Wal Mart. Again I had good luck in that the shrink wrap was large enough for the basket. I set the basket inside the wrap and proceed to use my hairdryer to shrink it to the basket. I did get the top a little too small so I had to open it up and loosen the top a bit.
Overall, it turned out really nice. The photograph doesn't do it justice. I am hoping it will fetch a nice price at the auction
