A Delightful Film

This movie is about the life of writer, Beatrix Potter, who wrote and illustrated children's books, which quickly became best sellers. This is a beautiful little romantic film about her life and first love. The film begins with her at age 32, an old maid from an aristocratic English family. Her best friends are the animals she draws to accompany her stories. There are touches of animation to reflect her relation with her characters. Ewan McGregor plays her love interest. He is her publisher and not considered worthy by her parents. I love how she was adamant that her books be small so they would be affordable. Perhaps that helped her sales greatly.

The movie is set during Victorian times and it is amazing to see how etiquette has changed so drastically. The movie has its sad moments but, overall, it is a good story about the life of a writer and how seeing the world differently and trying to be independent has its price as well as its rewards. As far as I know, this movie is only available for rent from Blockbuster.
